Ryan A. Claxton

Attorney at Law

Divorce attorney Ryan A. Claxton focuses his practice on family law and criminal law across Williamson, Davidson, Wilson, Sumner, Rutherford, and surrounding counties.

Having personally experienced the challenges of family law, Ryan’s decision to dedicate his career to this field comes from a place of empathy and understanding. “I feel very strongly about helping others during such a challenging time in their lives and doing whatever I can to get them through this ordeal,” Ryan says. “Divorce is consistently one of life’s most stressful events, and it’s critically important to have a steady hand at the wheel to guide you through it.”

Ryan relates easily to his clients and recognizes that difficult legal circumstances don’t define who they are. “No one is at their best during a divorce or custody battle,” he explains. “But I’m going to fight for you, listen to you, and work tirelessly to achieve the outcome you deserve—because I know how much it matters.”

Before joining Fort, Holloway & Saylor in October 2025, Ryan spent nearly seven years at the nation’s largest domestic litigation firm, where he handled a wide range of family law matters including divorce, child support, and custody modifications. He also practiced at respected law firms in Gallatin and downtown Nashville, managing both family and criminal law cases.

Experience

With over nine years of experience primarily in family law, Ryan also has experience in criminal defense and estate planning. His skill and dedication have earned him recognition as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers—a Thomson Reuters rating service honoring outstanding attorneys—for 2023 through 2025, an honor given to only a small percentage of lawyers after a rigorous evaluation process.

A proud Tennessee native, Ryan was raised in Kingsport. He earned his B.A. in Political Science with a minor in History from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and his Juris Doctor from Belmont University College of Law. While at Belmont, he was recognized by the Tennessee Supreme Court for his extensive pro bono service.

Outside of work, Ryan enjoys spending time with his wife and children, following University of Tennessee athletics, and cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys.
